You Can Celebrate Without Settling

This is the time of year when we’re told to look back with gratitude —
And we should.
But let’s be honest:
Some of us are also looking back with frustration.
With grief.
With quiet disappointment.

Maybe you achieved some big milestones — but had to sacrifice too much to get there.
Maybe you stayed in a job, relationship, or mindset that never saw your full value.
Maybe you did all the “right” things — and still felt stuck.

Here’s what I want you to know:You can celebrate your progress without pretending it was enough.
You can be proud of what you’ve accomplished — and still want more.
You can hold gratitude — and also make room for ambition.

This isn’t about being ungrateful. It’s about being honest.
There’s a difference between being thankful for how far you’ve come —
And settling for staying there because it’s “better than it used to be.”

Especially for women in aviation and aerospace, we’ve been taught:

  • Don’t ask for too much.

  • Don’t rock the boat.

  • Be grateful you made it this far.

But here’s the truth:
Gratitude doesn’t require you to stay small.
It invites you to grow from a solid foundation.

Celebrate and Challenge Yourself

Let’s normalize saying:

  • “I’m proud of this — and ready for what’s next.”

  • “I learned a lot — and now I want better.”

  • “This role gave me skills — and now I’m ready for a new challenge.”

  • “This year stretched me — and next year, I’m setting the terms.”

You don’t have to choose between contentment and ambition.
There’s room for both — when your power is grounded in truth.

Beyond the Cockpit

You can raise a glass to what you’ve done —
And draw a line around what you won’t accept moving forward.
This season, choose celebration without self-abandonment.
Honor your growth without settling for less than what you know you’re capable of.
