How to Make Decisions from Power, Not Fear

Let’s be honest:

Most of us weren’t taught how to make powerful decisions.

We were taught how to weigh the risks.
How to avoid rocking the boat.
How to protect what we’ve already earned.

And in male-dominated industries like aviation and aerospace — where women are often outnumbered, underestimated, or outright excluded — fear-based decision-making becomes a survival skill.

  • “If I speak up, will I be seen as difficult?”

  • “If I say no, will I miss my chance?”

  • “If I push too hard, will they push me out?”

So we stall. We second-guess.
We settle.

And in doing so, we give our power away — one decision at a time.

Fear-Based Decisions Feel Safe — But They Keep You Stuck

Here’s how fear disguises itself:

  • Staying in a role that’s draining you, because the unknown feels worse

  • Avoiding opportunities unless you’re 100% qualified

  • Saying yes because you’re afraid of burning bridges

  • Overthinking every step because you don’t want to “get it wrong”

On paper, these choices look “practical.”
But deep down, they’re rooted in scarcity, not strength.

They keep you playing small — in rooms you’ve already outgrown.

Power-Based Decisions Sound Different

They don’t always feel easy.
But they do feel aligned.

  • “Does this move bring me closer to the leader I want to be?”

  • “Is this aligned with my values and goals?”

  • “Am I saying yes out of clarity — or out of fear of disappointing someone?”

  • “Would I advise another woman to accept these terms?”

Power-based decisions are grounded in your truth — not other people’s expectations.

They’re guided by purpose, not pressure.

From Default to Deliberate

Women in aviation and aerospace know how to be strategic.
But often, that strategy is focused outward — managing relationships, proving value, avoiding backlash.

Making decisions from power means turning that strategy inward.

It means:

  • Getting honest about what you actually want

  • Naming your non-negotiables — and honoring them

  • Saying no without guilt

  • Saying yes without over-explaining

  • Trusting your instincts, not just your credentials

Because at the end of the day, your career isn’t a puzzle to solve.
It’s a path to choose.

Power Doesn’t Ask for Permission

The most powerful women I know don’t have perfect clarity.
They have conviction.

They move forward before the timing is perfect.
They make bold decisions with incomplete data.

They know they’ll figure it out — because they’ve done it before.

And they trust that standing in their power is always a better bet than playing it safe.

Beyond the Flight Deck

Every powerful decision you make rewires what you believe about yourself.

You are not here to tiptoe, to twist yourself into someone else’s version of “leader,” or to survive a system that never saw you coming.

You are here to lead.

Decide accordingly.
